NEW VINTAGE RELEASES | 2018 Cabernets & 2019 Chardonnay
We're pleased to announce the annual release of our Cabernets and Chardonnay, which we're excited to share with you - two fantastic vintages!
These two wines represent part of a consecutive run of outstanding vintages we’ve been blessed with in recent years (2017, 2018 & 2019), and the '18 and '19 vintages are, in my opinion, every bit as good as the fantastic wines from last year’s release.
While 2020 will go down in the history books as unforgettable for many reasons, on the 'good news' side it marks 20 years for me making wine at Lake’s Folly, and I remain as passionate about the place as I have ever been.
As I watch what is happening with the wine industry domestically and globally, I feel most proud of the fact that the team here takes great pride in their work and has maintained the focus, quality, and original philosophy of Lake’s Folly, since it was established by Doctor Max Lake in 1963. To not only be the custodian of this special vineyard and winery, but to have a dedicated group of people in Pete, Roger, Jason, Mick, Brandon, Megan and, my substantially better half, Sandra (who have an impressive combined 130 years’ service to Lake’s Folly!), and the autonomy to run the place as it deserves to be run, afforded by our incredible owners of 20 years, Peter and Lee Fogarty, I feel very fortunate indeed.
Lastly, and most importantly, our thanks to you - our loyal supporters and Folly enthusiasts, who are here through the great, the good, and even the tough years, knowing that the consistency of wines made from this site is there - year in, year out - which can be attributed to superior site selection all those years ago, and the continued uncompromising approach the small team here has towards making something truly special – THANK YOU!
2019 Lake's Folly CHARDONNAY 95 / 100
Stone fruits and minerality are instantly apparent along with some tropical fruits with hints of passionfruit and vanilla bean. The palate is stylish – again, stone fruits dominate, but there is a complexity and richness of fruit that culminate in a classy classic style of Lake’s Folly Chardonnay, reminiscent of a good Burgundy. A long-living wine – 15+ years' cellaring.
2018 Lake's Folly CABERNETS 96 / 100
Clean, vibrant lifted blackcurrant and black cherry aromas with perfumed violet hints. Palate is generous and the pristine red and black berry fruits flow over the palate with fine tannins and elegant oak supporting a sensationally balanced and long-living Cabernet.
Word is out on these great wines, and with our usual limited volumes, I expect they will sell out quickly – these really are some of the great vintages of all time. Please enjoy!
